Prior to joining LSU, she spent eleven years at Cornell University, where she received the Clark Distinguished Teaching Award.
Dr. McGuire is a leader in improving student learning by teaching students metacognitive learning strategies. She works with faculty and students to increase their understanding of the application of cognitive science and learning theory to increasing student academic performance. She has delivered keynote addresses or workshops at over 400 institutions in 47 states and twelve countries. Her books, Teach Students How to Learn and Teach Yourself How to Learn are Stylus Publishing bestsellers.
On her appointment to the board, Dr. McGuire said “I’m thrilled to join the Codon Learning team in its efforts to refine and disseminate a novel approach involving software that helps faculty improve pedagogy while simultaneously helping students individually assess their metacognitive strengths and weaknesses. Because I have spent most of my career helping students learn how to learn I see the potential of these tools to increase success for all students while leveling the playing field for underprepared students.”
